Originally recorded by The Stylistics in 1971, the timeless song returns in a fresh new interpretation that pairs East Bay Soul vocalist Terrell Edwards’ soulful Jazz/R&B delivery with the distinctive pop-Jazz vocal style of special guest, Darelle Holden.
Backed by the all-star East Bay Soul rhythm section and featuring Greg Adams’ signature horn and string arrangements, this new version brings renewed energy and contemporary perspective to a song whose message remains just as relevant 55 years later.
Holden brings an impressive history to the recording, having toured with Sir Tom Jones for 18 years, with Jones himself praising her as “an outstanding vocalist.” Edwards has spent years performing for audiences around the world, including opening for Jay Leno at The Mirage in Las Vegas, and currently fronts his own international Motown revue when he is not performing with Greg Adams & East Bay Soul.
At the center of the project is legendary trumpeter, arranger and composer Greg Adams, a Grammy and Emmy-nominated musician and founding member of Tower of Power. Over a career spanning five decades, Adams has helped define some of the most recognizable horn sounds in modern music.
His extensive recording résumé includes collaborations with Elton John, Santana, Rod Stewart, Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Ray Charles, Celine Dion, Billy Preston, Luther Vandross, and countless other major artists. Adams’ distinctive horn and string arrangements have appeared on more than 40 RIAA-certified Gold and multi-platinum albums, contributing to a body of work that has influenced generations of musicians and listeners.
